With every ending, no matter what part of our life, there is a new beginning. We have said goodbye to the 2010s to welcome in, with hopeful enthusiasm, the 2020s. We must embrace the boundless opportunities that will present themselves. I am certain that these opportunities are going to be, for all of us, bigger and better than before so remember – look up and do not focus on the insular things.
With my family being in my other home country, Italy, I used my December on the South African coast, to reflect on what I wanted to achieve for 2020 and beyond. I also used the time to declutter so that I wouldn’t be distracted. I deleted and unsubscribed to many sites – this will keep me with crystal clear thoughts.
Part of this reflection and declutter showed me my final ‘a-ha’ moment for 2019. I received a blessing – the true blocker to my total abundance was revealed. I won’t go into the detail about how and why this unveiled itself on 19th December 2019 – the point is that I discovered that my innate power was being misplaced.
I took my newly found breakthrough like a rebirth of freedom, and as I did my daily 5km trek along the Umhlanga coastline, this revelation introduced me to my 2020 commitments. I use the word ‘commitment’ because, according to many data sources, the word ‘resolution’ has a negative connotation as it can imply that people feel forced to give up or start something.
So, here is the one thing that I am going to commit to in all areas of life – I am going to be at my best in everything that I do.
I am going to be at my best in my overall health
I am going to be at my best in my businesses
I am going to be at my best in love and laughter
I am going to be my best as a partner, sister, daughter, aunt, friend
I am going to be at my best. Full stop.
To prove that this mindset would work, I tested ‘being at my best’ in my exercise regime; this mindset made me push boundaries without hesitation, and I discovered that I was stronger than what I knew myself to be.
If I attribute being at your best to one thing, it is that each and every one of us must (and I use ‘must’ as an instruction) use 2020 to have a new-found respect for ourselves – physically, psychologically and professionally.
My wonderful readers, we must make a life that we are obsessed with. There isn’t anything holding us back – especially if we know the best version of ourselves. So set those commitments, be your best and thrive! And if you do struggle to find the best version of yourself, the following quote from Pearl Bailey should inspire you – ‘you never find yourself until you face the truth.’
May you be at your best by accepting your true self. Stop hiding – the world needs you!
Happy 2020 and beyond!
